Jean Elizabeth Mitten

1923 - 2014

Jean Elizabeth Mitten, of Dover, died Saturday August 16, 2014 in her home. She was 90.

Mrs. Mitten was born in Harrisburg, Pa on November 2, 1923 to the late Elizabeth and Roscoe Garverich. She graduated from Wm. Penn. High School in Harrisburg and Pierce School of Business Administration in Phila. where she met and married her husband Wm. B. Mitten, Jr. who preceded her in death in 1986. She was employed by The Atlantic Refining Co. in Philadelphia During WWII. In 1946 she, with her husband, moved to Dover to join the family business, W.B. Mitten & Sons, Inc. In 1968 they left that business and formed a company of their own, Mitten Construction Co., where she worked until her retirement in1997.
Mrs. Mitten was a former member of the People's United Church of Christ in Dover and an active member of Wyoming United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Mitten is survived by; her three sons, Douglas N. Mitten and his wife Pamela of Great Falls, VA, William B. Mitten III and his wife Wendy of Dover, and David K. Mitten and his wife Sandra also of Dover: her seven grandchildren, Lisa, Neil and their mother Annet, Kelly, Jackie, Eric, Erin, and Kevin. Also surviving are six great grandchildren, Brendan, Lauren, Elle, Brooke, Kaleb, and Xander.

Funeral services will be held 2pm, Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at The Wyoming United Methodist Church, 216 Wyoming Mill Rd., Dover, DE 19904. Where friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Barratts Chapel Cemetery in Frederica, DE.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions be made to the Wyoming United Methodist Church, 216 Wyomimg Mill Rd., Dover, DE 19904 or Delaware Hospice 911 S. DuPont Hwy, Dover, DE 19901.
