Edward Montanez Obituary

Antioch
Edward A. Montanez of Antioch, CA passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2018, 21 days before his 87th birthday. He was born February 26, 1931 in Santa Barbara, CA to parents Eszquiel Montanez and Fedia Perez Jimenez. He moved to Pittsburg, CA and attended Pittsburg High School, before entering the Navy in 1949 where he traveled throughout the Pacific. His tour in the Navy was one of his life's proudest achievements. After his Honorable Discharge in 1950, he married Jean Vasquez and raised six children born between 1952 and 1960. In 1975 he married Lanell Zimmerman. He worked at US Steel in Pittsburg, in the Tin Finishing department, before retiring after 36 years. In retirement, he worked 15 years part time at the Concord Pavilion, where he participated and won staff talent shows with his rendition of Frank Sinatra's "Summer Wind". Ed enjoyed most all sports, but his passions were the SF 49ers and the SF Giants. He loved attending games at Candlestick Park with his children or friends and was a 49er season ticket holder from 1970-2008. He is proceeded in death by sons Marty in 1977, and Larry in 2012 (Kitty), wife Lanell in 1985. He is survived by sons Dr. Edward P. (Christine), Daniel (Debbie), Daughter Laura Steiner (Paul), and son Jeff (Lori). Services will be held Tuesday Feb. 13th at Higgins Chapel, A Street, Antioch. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Antioch. In lieu of flowers, Ed requested that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/
