Geraldine Murray Obituary

GERALDINE "GERRI" MURRAY Geraldine "Gerri" Murray was born to the proud parents Reverend George Gray Murray and Mrs. Lottie Bell Murray on February 10, 1950, in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The family later relocated to Oakland, California, where Gerri attended school, graduating from Castlemont High School. She went on to further her education in the Peralta Colleges system where she pursued nursing. Gerri's love for nurturing and caring for others was clearly demonstrated over the years as she cared for her sister Evangelist Mary Delores Murray and her mother, Lottie Bell Murray, who both preceded her in death. She was especially known for her exquisite taste in clothing and jewelry, her love for Sunday school and Bible study, and her strong soprano voice which she would readily lend in worship to the Lord Jesus Christ at the City of Refuge Tabernacle COGIC. Gerri's love for cooking, serving others and her "gourmet potato salad" will be remembered by many. Gerri can now be counted among the faithful, as she has now been inducted into faith's hall of fame as noted in Hebrews, the 11th chapter. Absent from the body, but present with God, Gerri was ushered into glory on Friday, April 29, 2005. She leaves to cherish her wonderful memory, her father, Elder George Gray Murray; five sisters, Vivian Marie Miller, Sandra Annette Murray-Isaacs (Fred), Missionary Regina Murray, Michelle Murray, Joyce Rwanda Murray-Reese (Ronald); seven brothers, Administrative Assistant Elder George Mason Murray (Sharon), Bishop Donald Ray Murray (Gwendolyn), Elder Dale Carnegie Murray (Scheryll), David James Murray, Minister Reginald Murray (Vienna), Elder Michael Murray (Pamela), Andrew Murray; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and many dear friends. Home-going celebration services Friday, May 6, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., Good Samaritan Cathedral Church of God in Christ, 625 W. MacArthur Blvd. Oakland CA 94609.

Death is hard and difficult at best for those of us left behind...However God has created a venue for comfort and periodic relief through our memories. The Pain is for a season...Memories are everlasting. Replay them, share them, cherish them...I will.

Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Family, we can make it!

Aunt Gerri, your legacy will live forever; their is NO end to the ripple effect of a life characterized by "sacrificial giving" and "sacrificial servanthood"- this is the theme of your life story.

Our lives has been impacted for the better having known and observed you for all these years. We will never, NEVER forget you; moreover, as we aim to be like Jesus, we can emulate your approach to living: to achieve greatness through serving others!

I was so saddened to receive the news just today. Gerri - a simply gorgeous and special woman will be so missed. Growing up in the neighborhood, going to school and many functions and finally graduating from Castlemont was made special by her presence.

Prayers and blessings to your family

The Murray family is such a big part of my childhood memories. I was taught by Sis. Mary and Sis. Regina at REMCA and remember watching Sis. Gerri at East Oakland Faith Deliverance Center. Her style distinguished her from all the women at the church. I always thought she was a "jazzy" lady and couldn't wait to grow up and imitate her fierce style. I pray that God will keep and comfort the entire Murray family as you deal with this difficult loss. Her memory will live in the hearts and minds of the many lives she touched.
