John Rumrill Obituary

John Burton Rumrill Former Resident of Richmond John Burton Rumrill died on March 1, 2011 at the age of 88. He died after a brief 2 week battle with pneumonia. John is survived by his brother Richard Rumrill and his sister Anne Culver, his 4 children, Douglas Rumrill, Danny Rumrill, Doris Gates and Diane Roderick along with 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. His wife, Rosalie, died in 1984. John was born in Long Beach, California on October 6, 1922. He joined the Air Corps during World War II and worked as an aircraft mechanic. He worked at Cutter Laboratories in Berkeley for 37 years as an HVAC specialist. John loved sailing on San Francisco Bay, especially in his sailing canoe. He particularly enjoyed camping with his family each summer at Clear Lake and then Berryesa where water skiing was his delight. He loved riding motorcycles and enjoyed riding his bicycle until the age of 80. He never stopped playing and enjoying a rousing game of dominoes. John lived in Richmond, California for about 65 years. Rumrill Blvd., in San Pablo was named after his great uncle, Azro Rumrill, who owned a ranch on the site of the boulevard.John spent the last 2 years of his life in Santa Rosa living close to his sons.
