With great sadness, we say good-bye to Mel who passed away on July 23, 2014. He was preceded in death by parents, Antoine and Mary Moura, his brothers and sisters, Mamie Machado, Gerald Moura, Lawrence Moura and Viola Sylvia. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Clarabelle Moura, son, Scott Moura and his wife Jaci, daughter Toni Nash and husband Richard. He also leaves behind a sister, Geraldine Chastian. He was a proud grandfather to Ryan and Patrick Moura.
Melvin was born and spent his childhood in San Lorenzo. He graduated from Hayward High School in 1948. During his high school years he was an active member of the Future Farmers of America. He served two years in U.S. Army. Following his return from the Army, he started his 35-year career at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. The majority of this time he was a Supervisor in the Graphic Arts Department.
Mel had many hobbies throughout his life, but he was most fond of raising orchids and working with ceramics. He was a lifelong member of the Ashland Holy Ghost Association.
Please help us celebrate his life and legacy. Vigil will be held at Grissom's Mortuary on Monday, July 28th at 7:30 pm and funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 29th at St John Catholic Church commencing at 10:00 am.
