RUTH TAVARES CASTRO Beloved wife of 58 years to Ervin Castro. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Jeffery and Mary Ellen Castro of San Leandro and John S. Castro of San Leandro. Dear daughter of the late Sebastian and Virginia Tavares. Devoted grandmother of Chantel Gonzalez, Alishia Post, Jeffery Castro, Tony Castro and Ty Castro and great grandmother of Jordan and Leilani Post. Dear sister of Dorothy Fogli of San Leandro and the late Raymond Tavares. Ruth also leaves behind her cherished friends, Evelyn Paveo, Hope Andrews, Charles and Della Gallagher, Bernice La Rocca and Willa Clark. Born in Oakland in 1927, she attended Oakland Technical High School. Ruth resided in Castro Valley for 35 years, she retired after 20 years from Bank of America. She also worked as a hairdresser for 14 years. She loved to play golf, take trips and do oil painting. Friends are invited to an evening Vigil service at Machado's Hillside Chapel, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. A funeral procession will leave the mortuary Thursday at 9:00 a.m. to go to Transfiguration Church in Castro Valley for Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Visiting hours begin Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Family prefers donations to American Cancer Society, Hope Hospice of Dublin, or Transfiguration Catholic Church in Castro Valley.
