Jan was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Gary, and five sisters, Geneva, Lillian, Lucille, Mary and Rita, and surviving are one brother, Jerry (Carolyn) Cook, one sister, Nila Young, and sister-in-laws Irene and Marcia Cook.

She worked for many years as a waitress at Judd Drug Stores, and Michael's, where she became a beloved figure. She was a lifelong member of the Jamestown United Methodist Church. Known for her quick wit and warm smile and love for her community, she touched the lives of everyone she met.
An avid sports fan, Jan was especially passionate about the Jimtown Jimmies and Notre Dame and spent countless hours cheering for her teams. Outside of sports, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like feeding and watching the birds and playfully chasing the squirrels off of the pole. She also enjoyed playing cards and spending time at the lake cottage with her family. Her enthusiasm and joy for life were contagious, and her family cherishes the many memories they created together.
Jan's family was the center of her world, and she leaves behind a legacy of love as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered for her strength, her devotion, and her unwavering spirit.

"I am very sorry to hear of Jan's passing! I truly enjoyed having my lunches at the Judd's Lunch Counter with Jan's smiling face and witty comments to me and everyone else at the lunch counter! Every one at the lunch counter knew who Jan was and she made friends of all of us. Jan even named my favorite breaded, deep fried hamburger "The Jackson Burger" and put it on as I walked into Judd's! By the time I got to my seat, she had it ready for me! Go Fly With The Angels, Jan...We Will Catch Up"

Jan was a true Jimmie at heart- to the point of giving basketball officials a hard time at every game! She was an absolute hoot with her quick wit and sense of humor. Jimtown has lost another great one. The Fawley family loved seeing her.

To the extended Bender/Cook Families,
I was saddened to hear about Jan's passing. She was an amazing, lovely person who ALWAYS took time to listen and share in a caring and thoughtful way to anyone she met and connected with. She was a great model for others to follow to make the world a kinder and better place.

Although I didn't really know Jan, I knew all of you kids at Jimtown. I even was a babysitter for Adam and his brother. I am sorry for your loss, but Jesus gives life everlasting for those who believe in Him !
