Gwen, Tony and Maxine,
My deepest condolences to you and the family.....................
Toodie is one of the brightest stars in the heavens! Having known her all of our lives, I am blessed to have had her as a true friend and running buddy. Her caring and giving so selflessly set the bar for all of us. She had a smile that could melt moutains, eyes that always sparkeled with fun, and a laugh that rocked the world. A day never went by that she was not willing to help someone. If years pasted us by, when we did finally talk, it was as though we had just seen each other an hour before. She was always my 'source' to catch up on the 'happenings' in El Paso. She will be sorely missed. While she is no longer with you physically, she will always be in your hearts. Although unable to be with you during this painful period please know I am always with you in spirit. May you continue to be blessed.

Robert Fulghum writes, "I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge - myth is more potent than history - dreams are more powerful than facts - hope always triumphs over experience - laughter is the cure for grief - love is stronger than death."
Juanita McCray embodied the best of what humanity can provide. She generously offered her life to the world as a role model, friend, and protector. Along the way, she caught us all up in her imagination, myth, dreams, hopes, laughter and love.
My condolences go to Gwen, Tony and Maxine.

To Maxine, Gwen and Anthony,
Your sister and mother was my childhood friend. Later in life, she coached a group of us old "brokedown" basketball players, at the Douglas School reunions. What fun we had!
I will truly miss her infectious smile and biting wit! Be proud of her and what she accomplished.
My prayer is that you let God walk with you as you heal from this loss. He will always be with you.
Trusting in HIM,

I was greatly saddened to learn of the home going of my “little sister” Juanita McCray, known to all of us in her earlier years as Toodie. My parents, Mildred and Dewey Prescott were stand in parents for Toodie when her mother was at work, and consequently we spent many, many wonderful hours together, along with all the other loving families on the “row”. The Hudsons, McCrays, Jimersons, Mickels, Stevens, Bells, Mangrums, Prescotts, Aunt Willie Woods, Aunt Willie Caruthers, and the Butts, down the street from the “row”, to name a few. All my friends called her Maxine’s little Toodie, because we were always together. My mother would dress her for school every morning, as her Mom left early for work, and she would walk with my brother Billy and me to school daily. Toodie was a very smart, inquisitive young girl who loved to talk, and would not hesitate to let you know exactly how she felt on any subject, at any time. She was always a loving, kind and compassionate person, even as a little girl, and I was so extremely proud of the wonderful contributions that she made to society and the El Paso community through her advocacy for children and families during her mature years. She also loved her family and her children, Tony and Gwen, with her whole heart and soul. Through the years, whenever we spoke, there was never a time that she did not give me an update on the children. I send my heartfelt love to them both, and to Maxine. I would be with the family on tomorrow for the memorial services, but my brother, Billy, is in the hospital presently. I take solace in the fact that my parents, her parents, and all of our other loved ones were together to welcome her into paradise.
“Eternal rest grant unto Toodie, Oh Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and all the souls of our faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, REST IN PEACE”. Amen
Youi are once, twice, three times a lady.

Juanita,
I know that you and Joy are laughing and enjoying each others company again! Both of you created so much positive energy when you were in each others company and both of you complemented the work that needed to be done for those that called on you. You will never be forgotten by those that waked along the path with you as we struggled to bring social justice, equality, serenity and peace to our community.
Gwen and Tony our parayers are with you and know that she was loved by many of us in El Paso.

Juanita, there is not enough space to give you the amount of thanks and love you deserve not only from me but from my children as well. Brian, Levi and I are so saddened by your passing. You played a huge part of me getting off drugs and going back to school. From helping me with therapy, bills or getting my kids jobs, you never gave up on me. Because of you, our family survived. OH MY GOD!!! The laughs we shared to counteract the tears! You were a good friend Juanita and I will miss you every day for the rest of my life. There will be a huge void left in the heart of all who knew you. Say high to my mom and Joey. Fly high my beautiful, funny friend...past the clouds...past the stars....and touch the face of God.
Tony and Gwen....our prayers are with you.

To the Family of Juanita,
Never did I hear her say an unkind word about anyone. She was always smiling and making the best of any situation. She was a fighter and a light unto this world. It was an honor to have known her. I am truly saddened by her passing but she is right where she would want to be "in the palm of Our Father's hand". God bless you all in this very difficult time.

Juanita, more than you will ever know, you are missed already. So many wonderful things you have done for so many neglected/abused and needy children. You will always be my hero and I will do everything in my power to get the Child Advocacy Center named after you. You led a life that should be an example for others to follow.
You were the best and I miss your smile and words of wisdom. Now, God has one terrific angel to watch over us.
