Lori:
I just found out about Mike's passing last night. I had not spoken to him in a few years (since Judge Tom G. Davis' death), did not have his number, and went to look him up on Google. I am so sorry to hear the news. Mike and I clerked together for Judge Davis. Mike was the Briefing Clerk and I was the Research Attorney. I met you during that period, around the time the two of you got engaged, and he spoke of you often. Mike was a great friend, colleague, and lawyer. Everyone at the Court of Criminal Appeals admired and respected him. His nickname during the daily Ping-Pong matches was "The Reverend." Most of all I appreciated Mike's quiet dignity, love of history, self-effacing demeanor and wickedly wry humor. My heart goes out to you and the family. He was a stellar man and lawyer.

To Lori and the Hutson family,
I just heard today from my sister Margaret Hutson of a gathering for Mike at the Stony Creek Church. I am Mike's cousin twice removed - our grandfathers were brothers. Mike was always generous of his time and always included me on his trips to South Carolina with his Dad. We used to see each other every other year but seemed to lose touch after his Dad passed away. I moved to Denver in 2009 and kept promising myself that I would visit El Paso and talk with Mike about family history. I would love to hear from any one in the family - [email protected].
Mike and his Dad made a crusade of visiting every living Hutson descendant and on one of those visits found the original Rev William Hutson's Diary from the 1750/60s. Mike donated the diary to the South Carolina Historical Society. I was always disappointed that I never found Rev William Hutson's family in England. Mike shared his research with me as I am willing to share what I have found. Again I am so sorry to learn of Mike's illness and loss. Paula Hutson Simmons

When Mike was in college he drove a little BMW and worked as a "runner" for Ruth Kern and Stanley Rosen. Later when Ruth's vision began to fail her Mike would help her around the downtown area on her various legal appointments in addition to his other work for her firm. It seems that service was part of his nature even then. (Just to clarify, the BMW was an old smoker with faded paint).

I think of Mike so much and how much it hurts to lose someone so dear. For you his loved one's, it is such a long road of grief and as hard as it is; one day those memories that hurt so much now will bring you tender, lovely, joyful memories. The tears will become smiles.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
I am so grateful to have known such an amazing man. He exuded kindness and wisdom.
With a heavy heart I leave these thoughts.
with much love your friend,

Lori and family and the Hutson family, we are very saddened at the loss of Michael. Knowing him since your marriage to him, I can say that he never changed. He always considerate, polite, smart and willing to help. He greatly assisted our grandmother and my mother during their final days insuring that all legal matters were settled. His legacy is one that we can aspire to and he will not be forgotten. You are all in our prayers. Ralph, Marta and Sean Rasura.

My second father was an honorable, generous, and kind man. I feel extremely blessed to have had him in my life. Forever, I thought I had the most special and unique bond with him. It was until recently I realized that I was not alone nor the only one whose life he changed. He made every single person feel as if they were the only one in the world.
Mike, I miss you very much and will never stop loving you. My future children will learn the lessons you taught me.

Dear Lori,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I remember when I first met Mike: it was 1981 or 82. He was still in Austin and came home during a holiday; you, Mike, the Manas and me went to Pancho's out on McCrae for lunch. Nice, nice guy! So sorry for your loss.

I had the great pleasure to know Mike Hutson as a client for many years and I have many great memories of his amazing manner of how to treat people always with great respect and still work 100% for me as his client. I also have had the wonderful pleasure of knowing Lori, Mike's lovely wife, and to see them as friends and the perfect example of happiness. Mike had a great ability to earn respect not only for his professionalism in his work, but as a great human being and for his generous time and effort which he gave to El Paso. I would like to express my extreme respect and condolences to Lori and their children and all of the family. Peace and healing for you...
