Geraldine Trucilla Obituary

Loving Mother, Grandmother and Faithful Servant of God

Geraldine Modica "Trixie" Trucilla died peacefully Monday evening, July 27, 2015.

She was 82 years old.

She was born in Erie, Pa., on May 10, 1933, the daughter of the late James and Celia Jiuliante Modica.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Elvin J. Trucilla, and brothers Jimmy and John Modica.

She was a proud graduate of the 1950 class of Strong Vincent High School. She enjoyed attending her class reunions and catching up with the Colonel alumni.

She was previously employed at the General Telephone Company as a line and cable assigner and also worked for District Justice Sam Rossister. Most recently, Trixie spent several years as a tipstaff serving many of the Court of Common Pleas Judges at the Erie Courthouse. Because of her professionalism, attention to detail and her profound organizational skills, Trixie was the "go-to" person for Judges in need of a tipstaff in jury trials involving matters of sequestration. One of her proudest moments came when she was asked to come out of retirement and serve as an honorary tipstaff and court crier on the day her son, John, was sworn in as a Court of Common Pleas Judge.

She had served on the 4th Ward Juvenile Diversion Committee and was also active in St. Andrew's PTA.

She is survived by her daughter, Tina M. Glowacki and her son, the Hon. John J. Trucilla and his wife, Suzanne. She has eight grandchildren, Elizabeth and Joseph Glowacki and John, Luke, Marielle, Grace, Anne and James Trucilla. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The crown of jewels in her heart were her two children and eight grandchildren. Her dynamic personality made her a friend to all. Trixie will always be remembered for her infectious smile and warm personality, which made every person she met happier. Trixie always put others before her own needs and was selfless to the end. She will be remembered for her flamboyant, colorful and bedazzled clothing and a style unique only to her. However, her true beauty was found within. She was a compassionate listener and eager supporter for anyone who was feeling down. A breast cancer survivor, she, could light up a room with her magnetic persona, which was endearing to all. She was a true ray of sunshine!

Her family would like to thank all of the caregivers who so patiently and attentively cared for Trixie throughout these past several years. This would include the employees at the former Regency at South Shore and the staff at the LECOM Senior Living Center.

Friends are invited to call Thursday, July 30, 2015, at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, Inc., 728 West Ninth Street, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held there Friday, July 31, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. followed at 10:00 a.m. by a Funeral Mass at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1116 West Seventh Street, Erie, Pa. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Crime Victim Center of Erie County, 125 West Eighteenth Street, Erie, PA 16501, and/or to Cathedral Preparatory / Villa Maria High Schools.

Dear Johnny, Tina and family; Nothing compares to my very beloved Aunt Gerri. I cannot ever put in writing how much she meant to me and all the special memories I have growing up with her when we stayed with Nana. My best and most cherished memories are of her walking into the kitchen soon after we arrived from an 8 hour drive from DE. of course, Aunt Gerri didn't just "walk in", she knew how to make an entrance that had me smiling ear to ear and my eyes would light up just hearing her comforting voice and exciting style. She always seemed happy and happy to see me and my family. I loved witnessing my Dad, and Uncle Jimmy together years ago, esp. at the family reunions, but also just hanging around - they knew how to have fun together. Of course she sure loved you, Tina and Johnny, and she lived for her grandkids; I loved the way she talked about those she loved. I can only imagine how much fun it was to have her for a grandmother! I loved her voice and the way she said my name, Joannie, & Oh my gosh; just about any word she spoke was special. Growing up I just adored her, absolutely loved her so much. cousin Cheryl was right; it's the end of an era with her passing. I'm sure she's up in heaven reunited with her parents, brothers and husband. I wish I was able to see her more in those later years, but I'll hold those earlier memories close to my heart. She was something special; in my eyes, a great Aunt. Joan Modica Leach

Dear Tina , John and family
So sorry for the loss of your mom. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of "Aunt Gerry" and the special relationship we had. The conversations around Nanna Modica's kitchen table and the wonderful holiday dinners. It's the end of an era with the passing of your mother, she will surely join Uncle John and my father Jim. I will remember her in my prayers.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I am so sorry for your loss and that I can't be at Trixie's service. She was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her. The thing I remember most is how much she loved all of you and how proud she was of each and every one of you. I also remember all the good times I had with her and the other Courthouse women that I came to know and to love. Luckily our memories and the feelings they evoke can sustain us in times of sorrow. That is what I wish for all of you that the memories in your minds will keep Trixie in your hearts forever.
