Louise Tillman was escorted to the arms of Jesus on July 27, 2025 in Prescott, AZ.
Mary Louise Emmert was born on October 16, 1928 to Benjamin H. Emmert and Effie Pearl (Allen) Emmert in Erwin, Tennessee. She graduated from Unicoi County High School in Erwin, Tennessee in 1946. She served as President of the Senior Class and the Beta Club. She was the Salutatorian for the school. Louise went on to college at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. She graduated with a BS degree in Biology in 1950. Louise met her future husband, Jerry Tillman, at college. Prior to their marriage, Louise taught school for one year in Erwin.
Jerry and Louise were married on Aug 21, 1951. They made their home in Jefferson City, TN. Jerry pastored churches in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Maryland. In 1963 Jerry and Louise, with their three children, moved to La Habra, California. They helped start Green Hills Baptist Church and pastored there for 12 years.
In 1975 they accepted the call to Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Fresno, CA and pastored there until 1995. After retirement they enjoyed 12 years of traveling the US in their motorhome.
In 2014, Louise moved to Ripon, CA to be near family and enjoyed many happy years in the Bethany Home Senior Living Community. She was a member of first Baptist Church in Ripon and dearly loved.
Louise has been a fulltime homemaker and faithful pastor's wife and church supporter all her adult life. Some of her contributions to ministry life have been: teaching Sunday School, VBS, Missions classes, church organist & pianist, choir member, Women's Missionary Union leader, and nursery worker. She was an avid reader and loved music, sewing, crochet, and gardening. Louise was a very beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Tillman in 2013. She is survived by her children, Stan Tillman of Brownsville, KY, Becky and Tom Hixson of Prescott Valley, AZ and Sara and Keith Rankins of Prescott, AZ. She leaves 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Life will be held October 18 at 11:00 am at Trinity So Baptist Church in Fresno, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Bethany Home Society at 999 W. Second Street, Ripon, CA 95366 or Trinity So Baptist Church at 4890 E. Holland, Fresno, CA 93726.
