Camelia Furbay Obituary

Camelia Glover Tuthill Furbay, 86, beloved wife of Dr. Walter M. Furbay, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Furbay was born in Long Island, N.Y., the daughter of the late Charles Burt and Josephine Glover Tuthill. She graduated from King's College in Briar Cliff Manor, N.Y., earning an associate's degree in prenursing and a bachelor's degree in business management and economics. She worked in Suffolk County, N.Y., as the first woman police officer during World War II. She retired as branch manager from Western Union with 46 years of service. She attended Gilead Friends Church in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, and also attended Pine Brook Presbyterian Church in Sumter, N.C. Surviving in addition to her husband are one son, William R. Boggs of Nokomis, Fla.; one daughter, Helen Mallon of Bonita Springs, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Vollie Boggs Jr.; six brothers; and two sisters. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sumter Baptist Temple with the Revs. Ray Holland and Eddie Richardson officiating. The family will receive friends at her daughter-in-law's residence in Sumter, S.C. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association MidState, S.C. Chapter, P.O.
