Earl Coffman Obituary

Earl E. Coffman, 77, died Friday, November 10, 2006, at his home. He was the husband of Virginia L. (Bortner) Coffman, with whom he celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary April 11, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Jacob's (Stone) Church, 5152 Stone Church Road, Glenville, with his pastor, the Rev. Paula Murray, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the Hanover Allied Veterans Council. Viewings will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Mr. Coffman was born August 23, 1929, in Spring Grove, a son of the late Theron Coffman and Mellie (Bollinger) Bish. He was employed as a truck driver and yard jockey with St. Johnsbury Trucking for over 40 years, retiring in 1991, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Earl was a member of the Lutheran Congregation of St. Jacob's (Stone) Church and served on the church council. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, first with Local #430, where he served on the Executive Board, and then with Local #776. He was also a member of the Victory Club, Hanover Moose Lodge #227, and the Austin L. Grove American Legion Post #403. Earl was an avid bottle collector, enjoyed browsing flea markets, and was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Keith E. Coffman and his wife, Diane of Seven Valleys; four daughters, Gail D. Roberts and her husband, Gary of Mt. Wolf, Beverly E. Plowman of York, Pamela A. Hershey and husband, Scott of Mt. Wolf, and Denise L. Smith and her husband, Edward of Spring Grove; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Mae Mummert of East Berlin and Ruth Wagner of Spring Grove. A brother, Burnell Bish, is deceased. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jacob's (Stone) Lutheran Church, 5152 Stone Church Road, Glenville, PA 17329; or to White Rose Hospice, 1412 Sixth Ave., York, PA 17403.
