Paul Golden Obituary

GETTYSBURG Paul R. Golden, 75, died Mon day evening, July 9, 2007, at his home. He was the husband of Shirley (Hewitt) Golden, to whom he was married 45 years. Born August 11, 1931, in Bonneauville, he was the son of the late Paul F. and Mary (Smith) Golden. Mr. Golden was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1952 to 1956 as a communications technician during the Korean War. He worked at Maitland Brothers Construction as an equipment operator for many years. After his retirement, he worked for a time at the South Hills Gold Course in Hanover. Mr. Golden was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Gettysburg. He was a life member of the Bonneauville Fire Company and a member of the Gettysburg Archery Club. Paul enjoyed hunting, gardening, and mounting deer antlers for people. In addition to his wife, Mr. Golden is survived by one son, Christopher P. Golden and his wife, Wanda of Gettysburg; two daughters, Jill Smith and her husband, Shane of Biglerville, and Jennifer Miller and her husband, Michael of New Oxford; two grandchildren, Colby Smith and Camden Smith; one brother, Robert Golden of Gettysburg; and one sister, Doris Smith of Bonneauville. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2007, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 22 W. High St., Gettysburg, with the Rev. Fr. Bernardo Pistone as Celebrant. Private interment will be held at St. Francis Cemetery, Gettysburg. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with a prayer service at 3 p.m. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to AseraCare Hospice, 44 Bowman Road, York, PA 17408; or the Rita Smith Garden, c/o St. Francis Building Fund, 22 W. High St., Gettysburg, PA 17325.
