Lawrence Rhoads Obituary

WAYLAND - Lawrence C. Rhoads, 75, died unexpectedly Saturday (April 12, 2014) at his home.

Larry was born June 3, 1938 in Bath, a son of Harry and Mabel (Clark) Rhoads. He married Darlene Kurtz on July 7, 1990; she survives.

Larry was a jack of all trades, he worked at Taylor Winery and at numerous farms. He ran a self-employed trucking business, a cab company in Bath and was a field hand at Golden Nematode Research in Prattsburgh.

In addition to his parents, Larry was also predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Wheaton) Rhoads.

Larry was a former fire police captain for the Kanona Fire Department. Larry enjoyed farming and working outdoors, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Larry is survived by his wife, Darlene; his children, Bea, Leah, Caroline (David) Speer and Dusty Rhoads; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Pamela) Rhoads and Gerald Rhoads; one sister, Martha Ames; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 W. Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services will be held at 7 p.m.
