Archie Barnes Obituary

Archie David Barnes formerly of Bartlesville, passed away on June 19, 2011 in Toronto, Ontario Canada where he had lived for more than 40 years. He was born in Bartlesville, OK September 15, 1944 to Al and Sylvia Barnes and attended Horace Mann, Central and College High School graduating with the Class of 1963. He attended Oklahoma State University and his passion was music.
He played with many local, area and regional musical groups and was possibly best known for his years with The Shadow Lake 8 for which he played lead guitar and sang. He was almost a genius on guitar and his voice was unforgettable. His musical career peaked when he was hired by legendary Rock 'n Roll Singer Brenda Lee to play guitar and sing with her band The Casuals. He enjoyed meeting many musical greats and traveled the world during his years with The Casuals.
Archie had numerous friends in Bartlesville, all over this country and in Canada and his passing is mourned by many. A lasting tribute to his music is located on Facebook and is titled "Remembering Archie Barnes" where memories of him and his music can be posted.
He retired as a professional musician decades ago and only recently retired from the City of Toronto. He is survived by his son David Barnes of Toronto, Ontario, a sister Alayne Barnes Thurman of Bartlesville, a brother Larry Barnes of Bartlesville and a host nieces and nephews who adored him. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and a brother Jack Barnes of Tulsa.
He was greatly loved, he loved greatly in return and he will be missed immensely.
Rest in Peace, Archie, and thanks for the music. It was an awesome ride.

I was a bass player in Lonnie Lee Edens. Lonnie and theBig Beats in 1960 to 1962. And Archie was the lead guitar player. He was still in high school when I met him. Archie was a very good kid and a fantastic guitar player. I went in the Army in March 1963 and never got to see him again. I´m saddened to know of his passing. RIP Mr Archie Barnes also Lonnie Lee and Vaughn Quimby who was in Lonnie´s band. Only me and Ron Mason are still left from that fantastic band.

I was introduced to Archie by Dale Smith.
I can remember sitting in Archies little bedroom in Bartlesville on cold winter days and learning blues and rock and roll from someone who was accomplished well beyond his years. Archie was a special soul who will be sincerely missed.
