Fred Durst Obituary

Fred Durst, 70, of Dewey, died Saturday in Dewey.
Fred was born the son of Floyd Anderson and Irene (Bailey) Durst on Nov. 27, 1947, in Copan, OK. He was raised in Copan and graduated top of his class as valedictorian in 1966. Fred played football in school and developed a love for hunting and fishing during those years. He furthered his education at Oklahoma State University, graduating with a degree in Business in 1970. Fred knew a desk job wasn't what he wanted and he began his 47 year career with Martin Marietta in Tulsa. Over the years the quarry changed names many times and is now known as Central Plains Cement Plant.
After completing training at Tulsa Welding School, Fred welded at the quarry for 17 years before taking a position on the crusher. For the past 10 years he ran heavy equipment which he loved. Over the years Fred developed many personal relationships with his coworkers and entertained them with the many funny stories he experienced. In 1987 he reconnected with a family friend at church, a relationship was sparked and Fred was united in marriage with Tina Chancellor on Jan 14, 1989, in Dewey. They made their home in Dewey and enjoyed 29 years of loving marriage.
Theirs was the perfect union because Fred like to eat and Tina liked to cook his favorite dishes. Together Fred and Tina watched their favorite TV shows. When not at home he loved to attend sprint dirt track races in Tulsa and later at Wheatland, MO. To say he was a fan would be an understatement. He kept up with all of his favorite drivers, wearing their t-shirts and milling around the pits visiting with his race buddies. His cousin Roy shared his passion for racing and they attended many races together and discussed the sport at every opportunity. Most of all Fred loved his family and extended church family - he will be dearly missed.
Fred is survived by his wife Tina of the home; children Trenton Short of McLoud, OK, Jeff Short of Dewey, and Bethany Short of Bartlesville; daughters from a previous marriage, Angie and Allison; granddaughter Avery Matlock, nephew Troy Clark of Oologah; and special cousin Roy Anglin of Wann. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Judy Clark.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Rose Hill Community Baptist Church, with Brother Orville Moody officiating. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
