Dr. James S. Williams, age 78 of Huntington Beach, CA passed away peacefully at Huntington Elder Care in Huntington Beach on November 4, 2011.
Dr. Williams was born on June 23, 1933 to Dr. Byron and Dorothy (Bair) Williams in Kansas City, Kansas. He married Ann Bell on June 21,1954 and later married Sigrid (Jammer) Benear in 1976.
Dr. Williams attended school in both Kansas and Oklahoma. His undergraduate degree was from the University of Oklahoma where he also graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. Dr. Williams completed his internship and residency at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. Following his studies in Cleveland, Dr. Williams was awarded a research fellowship at Harvard University school of Public Health in Cambridge, Mass.
Along with his family, Dr. Williams moved to Bartlesville, OK where he established himself in private practice, specializing in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. Dr. Williams later relocated to California where he continued to practice medicine for many years, primarily in Orange County. He also practiced in Hawaii. Dr. Williams was board certified in Internal Medicine and in Cardiology. Dr. Williams was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, the American Medical Association, the American College of Cardiology of which he was named a Fellow.
Dr. Williams was an accomplished artist who; following his retirement from medicine, painted nearly 100 canvases in both oils and acrylic. He greatly enjoyed gardening, art and classical music. Dr. Williams was also an avid golfer who played for many years at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville, OK and later, Seacliff Country Club in Huntington Beach, CA.
Dr. Williams will be remembered as a great man by his family, including his wife, Sigrid of Huntington Beach; his loving daughters, Blythe (Emilio) Rinaldi of Eau Claire, WI, Lisa (David) Weisbord of Tampa, FL and Karen (Paul Wickre) Williams of Bethesda, MD, a stepson, Bert Benear of Oklahoma City, OK; grandsons, Casey Yorman of the Czech Republic, Carl Yorman, Tulsa, OK and Dewey Yorman of Bartlesville, OK; granddaughters, Molly and Emma Weisbrod of Tallahassee, Fl; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Benaiah, Tucker and Lucy. James is survived by his two brothers, Ronald (Ron) Williams of Weatherford, Ok and Robert (Bobby) Williams of Maitland, FL and a nephew, Bradley Williams of Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Byron and Dorothy (Bair) Williams of Oklahoma City, OK.
Private funeral arrangements are underway by Heritage Memorial Services of Huntington Beach, CA. Dr. Williams place of final rest will be Rose Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK. Online condolences may be observed through
