JAMES BLAU Obituary

JAMES ANTHONY "JIM" BLAU James Anthony "Jim" Blau, a beloved figure in the community, passed away on March 27, 2024. He was 73 years old. Jim was born to William and Sarah (Buckman) Blau on January 15, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri. Jim's journey through life was by selfless service and unwavering dedication. He graduated from the police academy in 1973. His career as a police officer spanned an impressive 40 years, during which he served at the Independence Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, and Sugar Creek Police Department. Beyond his law enforcement career, Jim wore many hats with equal passion and enthusiasm. From his days as a Volkswagen car salesman to his time as a freelance DJ and the 40 years he spent as an independent insurance agent, Jim approached every endeavor with a can-do attitude and a genuine desire to help others. Jim's impact extended far beyond the professional realm. As a Kansas City Royals Lancer for over a decade, he brought joy to countless fans through his dedicated service. He also found great fulfillment in coaching his son in various sports, instilling in him the values of teamwork and perseverance. His love for family, passion for baseball (both catching and umpiring), and dedication to making a difference in his community will forever be cherished. His involvement as a scout leader and the annual adventures at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Camp created lasting memories for his son and inspired many young minds along the way. In addition to his professional and extracurricular pursuits, Jim was deeply involved in various community organizations that reflected his strong sense of civic duty. From leading Junior Achievement classes to his role as President of Rotary and member of the Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, and Swope Park Masonic Lodge, Jim's contributions were instrumental in shaping a better future for those around him. Jim is described as optimistic, devoted to faith, and always willing to lend a helping hand, Jim will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and commitment to serving others. Jim is survived by his son, Patrick Blau (Miriam); beloved companion, Beth Mcknight; grandchildren, Travis and Carson Blau; brothers, Denny Blau (Dee), Ronny Blau, Gerry Blau (Marti), Tom Blau (Carolyn), and Bob Blau (Lori); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Sarah Blau. A visitation to celebrate Jim's life will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel on April 12th from 6-8pm. A second visitation will be from 10-11am at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Independence, Mo. followed by Mass at 11am on April 13th.
