Katherine Myers Obituary

CEDAR CREST, N.M. - Mrs. Katherine Owen Myers, 91, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 in Albuquerque, N.M. Educated in Cumberland County, N.C. and Fayetteville, N.C. schools, she attended Greensboro College, then joined the staff of Dr. Fred M. Hodges in Richmond, Va., as an X-ray technician. She married Edward L. Myers and they had one daughter. Later, they moved to Hampton, Va. then Norfolk, Va. and ultimately to the Albuquerque area. The Myers family readily adapted to Southwestern culture and cuisine. Friends and family were her dearest treasures, and she loved to share with them the beauty and attributes of New Mexico. Keeping up with her energetic pace tested one's stamina. Her Southern cooking was a delight to Southwest acquaintances. Her church affiliation changed often with her change of residence, and her family participated fully in church endeavors. The Myers helped establish a daycare program for inner city children and championed fundraising projects to perpetuate this venture. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Myers; daughter, Kathy M. Frease; mother and father, William Haigh Sr. and Katie S. Owen; brothers, Dr. Duncan S. Owen, William Haigh Owen Jr. and John Ray Owen. She is survived by four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be held in New Mexico at a later date. Local services by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
