Linda Marrero Obituary

HOPE MILLS - Mrs. Linda Kay Marrero was born Feb. 14, 1957, in Latta, S.C., to Juanita Williford and the late Coy Powers. She passed on to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, in Durham Regional Medical Center in Durham. She married Albert Marrero on Dec. 23, 1978, in Fayetteville, and traveled with her husband in support of his military career. A consummate homemaker, Linda was nurturing and compassionate and lived her life for her family. She was an exceptional mother, and her life was defined by her children. She was engaged, inspiring and supportive of her young ones' endeavors. She was also a loving grandmother who would take something as simple as movie night and make it into a magical experience. Linda's heart was overflowing with joy; one could feel happiness just from being around her. Linda spent her later years as a child health nutritionist, managing many school cafeterias for Cumberland County, most recently Stoney Point Elementary and Jack Britt High School. She was loved by her staff and her students alike, as she wanted nothing more than to take care of the kids. Our family is blessed to have had such a wonderful and loving woman in our lives. While we may be sad here on Earth, Heaven is rejoicing, for they've gained an angel. Funeral services are to be held at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, in Praise Fellowship in Fayetteville, with Pastor Williford officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 400 Murchison Road in Spring Lake. The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, 545 Ramsey St. in Fayetteville. Survivors include her husband, Albert Marrero Sr. of Hope Mills, her sons, Albert Marrero Jr. of Los Angeles, Michael Marrero of Fayetteville, Steven Marrero and wife Patricia of Raeford and Nicholas Marrero of Oxford; and daughter, Melissa and husband Jeremy Hammond of Hope Mills. Linda also is survived by her mother, Juanita Williford and husband John of Fayetteville; sister, Debbie Cusworth of Fayetteville; brother, Robert Powers and wife Rachel of Georgia; and three grandchildren, Alexandria Bailey Marrero, Michael Marrero Jr. and Caleb Allen Hammond. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
