Edward Hair Obituary
Edward Olin Hair, born on December 13, 1946, in Aiken, South Carolina, passed away on February 28, 2025, in Pineville, Louisiana. He was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend.
Edward (Ed) was born to build. He was a builder who built nuclear power plants, buildings, houses, furniture, relationships, memories and family. His professional career in construction began in December of 1964 at the age of 18, as an ironworker apprentice for Daniel Construction Company. Ed continued in the field of construction, climbing the ranks and mastering every level of the construction industry, for the rest of his life. He excelled in rigorous and stressful environments. Some of his early work included Exxon Chemical Plant, Proctor and Gamble, Nuclear Naval Submarine Base and Shell Oil, he served as the lead project manager in Malaysia with Fru-Con Construction and one of his proudest achievements was the rebuilding of the Aswan Dam over the Nile in Egypt. While his professional career began at the age of 18, Ed was proud that he had worked his whole life. His first job was putting stickers on peach boxes at 4 cents a label, showing that his negotiation skills were already at work before he was even a teenager. He worked alongside his father at Texaco gas station at the age of 16, and what began as a part-time job grew into learning lifelong automotive skills and allowed him time to create a special bond with his father. Ed had an entrepreneurial spirit, constantly dreaming up new ideas to help the family create generational wealth, he desired to continue to steer others to join his success.
Ed had skills, that many may not know. He was a prolific writer, delighted his family with meaningful stories and wooed his bride with poetry and song throughout their 55 years of marriage. Ed loved all kinds of music, and he would often call his family and friends to play his favorite song, the louder the better. Ed was dedicated to his family and many that have been weaved in as family. Ed was a Christian an active, faithful member of Journey Church and has served in many churches as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher and has led many church-building projects. It brought Ed no greater joy than to take care of all those around him. If you had a need and were with Ed, he came through to save the day. That desire to give his life away came directly from his relationship with Jesus. Ed accepted Jesus as his Savior as a young boy. The decision to become a follower of Jesus led to many coming to follow Jesus from friends, neighbors and extended family. Those most affected were his children who follow Jesus closely today. He has left a legacy of blessing with all those he met.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Jane Hair; his son, Shannon Hair; his daughters, Penelope Porsch and Tanya (Ryan) McAvoy; his brother, Charles (Gail) Hair; his sister-in-law, Pat Alford; and his brother-in-law, John (Vickie) Pitts. His nine grandchildren, Mitchell Hair, Mason Hair, Matthew Hair, Victoria Hair, Olivia Porsch, Jett Porsch, Caleb McAvoy, Sarah Jane McAvoy and Nathan McAvoy, also survive him.
Family and friends will gather for a viewing at Journey Church on March 10, 2025, starting with a public viewing at 5 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the same location at 6 p.m.
Edward was preceded in death by his dad, Olin Hair, his mother, Mildred Hair, sisters Joanne Coleman and Nancy Seigler and daughter Tricia Harrison.
