Malcolm Kautz Obituary

Kautz, Malcolm "Mal"

The Good Lord embraced into His arms Malcolm "Mal" Raymond Kautz on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Touchstone Living Center.

He was born to Raymond Sr. and Lillian (James) Kautz on October 23, 1945, in Hanley, England, in the local pub. He came to the U.S. on the Queen Mary, held by actress Rosalind Russell during his journey. Mal grew up in Clintonville. He graduated from Clintonville High School in 1963. He married his soul mate, Linda Auchue, on February 15, 1994.

He proudly served in the Navy, on the U.S.S. Allen M. Sumner Crew, with the ETR3 Division, as an electronics technician and served 25 years in the Naval Reserves.

He worked as an electrician at Giddings and Lewis for eight years. He graduated from the State Patrol Academy in 1977, and worked as a Wisconsin State Patrolman until his retirement in 2001. He was involved in Wiley Coyote seatbelt safety and was a Judo (verbal and self-defense) instructor, always offering to teach us his moves. Mal was a gentle soul and wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He was an avid camper and loved to tell "spooky" campfire stories. He liked to stay fit, right up to his admittance to Touchstone Living Center, with hiking, biking and walking. Mal was a family man and loved being around his kids and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his silly bad jokes, popcorn and ice cream addiction, love for old western movies, and his "collection" of pigs.

He is survived by many who adored him, included are: his wife and best friend Linda "LouLou Bell", and loving children: Raymond Jr. (Rachel) Kautz, Angela (Shane) Dvorjac, Tammy (Mike) Chapin, Melissa (Kevin) Keepers, Jessica Pickett, and Jennifer (Travis) Giese. He is further survived by special grandchildren: Keegan and Ray Kautz, Kaitie and Aubree Florand, Alex Gray, Stephanie Fife, Autumn and Hunter Ogie, Nathan, Sara and Kailee Chapin, Jordan and Kody Keepers, Chance and Cooper Pickett, and sweet Charlee Rose Giese, and her brother/sister on the way; sisters: Jenny (Mark) McConnely, Linda (Mark) Hodges, Barbi (Dan) Christopherson, and Brenda (Duane) Schertz; a special aunt and uncle, Barry and Brenda Saunders; a brother-in-law, James Auchue; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Raymond Sr. and Lillian; an uncle, Roland; Auntie Tory; a brother David; a brother-in-law, Richard Auchue; his mother and father-in-law, Red and Rose Auchue; and a granddaughter, Anna.

Special thanks to the late Nancy Steinke for her kindness to us. Also, special thanks to Matthew Steinke and the staff at Touchstone Living Center, and the hospice nurses and aides. We are grateful for your kind words and care of our wonderful dad/husband.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests and would appreciate donations to any dementia or Alzheimer's associations or to Agnesian Hospice.

I only learned of Malcolm's death today. I was a member of the WSP 25th recruit class with Malcolm. Although our paths did not cross again after we graduated, I still recall him. He was a class act all the way. My condolences to his family and all who knew him.

You have always been a beacon to all who were blessed with your presence. Your mild and gentle nature was only surpassed by your humor and kindness. You served as an example of what a decent man should be. It is an honor to have known you all these years .

My sympathies to Malcolm's whole family. We spent many hours on the judo mat together, and I have always been proud that we tested and earned black belt rank together. He was a great friend and a mentor to many, including me. He'll be missed.
