Dorothy E. Derick

Dorothy E. Derick of West Newton, formerly of Fitchburg; 95 WEST NEWTON, Massachusetts Dorothy Edith (Bosk) Derick, of West Newton, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at age 95. Derick was the widow of Clifford Lambie Derick, M.D., a Boston physician specializing in internal medicine. Born in Fitchburg, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Frieda (Adler) Bosk, and the sister of the late John A. Bosk. A 1931 graduate of Fitchburg High School, Derick, known for her exceptional grace and for her drawing and sewing abilities, was a competitive swimmer and diver, and an accomplished dancer. Following high school, she continued to study dance and taught at and co-ran a school of dance. A 1939 graduate of the Burbank Hospital School of Nursing from which she received her RN degree, she worked as an orthopedic assistant until just prior to her marriage on June 27, 1942. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Newton Centre, and a former active member of The Newton Centre Garden Club, The West Newton Garden Club, The Newton Mothers' Club, The Mothers' Council of West Newton, and The Neighborhood Club of West Newton. Derick is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Bosk Derick; a daughter, Donna Derick English and her husband, Robert; a son, Clifford Lambie Derick, Jr. and his wife, Martha; and a son, Jonathan Emil Derick and his wife, Laura. She is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses and families: Clifford Lambie Derick, lll; Brian John Derick and his wife, Shannon; Jennifer Alice English; Robert Derick English, his wife, Flavia, and her son Gabriel; David Matthew English; Jonathan Emil Derick , Jr.; and Abigail Dickson Derick. DERICK Calling hours will be held at the Bosk Funeral Home, 85 Blossom Street, Fitchburg, on Saturday, July 12 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 569 Main Street, Fitchburg. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
