of Lehigh Acres, FL
William "Bill" E. Mahoney III, of Lehigh Acres, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 11, 2018. Bill was the son of the late Michael and Caroline Marrone, born March 16, 1942. He grew up in Ashburnham, MA, where he graduated from Cushing Academy in 1960. Upon graduation he pursued his dream to fly, and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he had an honorable career as loadmaster. He spent many years in the active reserves, working out of Westover Air Base in Chicopee, MA and had 2 tours of duty during wartime: during the Gulf War, and the Vietnam War, for which he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal. Bill obtained his commercial pilot's license and flew for private corporations and American Trans Air (ATA). Bill leaves behind his loving wife of 33 years, Janice (Provost) Mahoney; daughter Mary Beth Litz of Saratoga, NY; granddaughter Marissa Litz of Saratoga, NY and many family members and friends.
MAHONEY - A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at 5:30 pm, at Hodges Funeral Home, at Lee Memorial Park, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL. Burial will be held at a later date at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hope Hospice or the Alvin Dubin Alzheimer's Center. Please sign his guest book at www.leememorialpark.com. Info (239) 334-4880.
