Henry Schiess Obituary

Henry J. (Hank) Schiess Jr.

Palm Bay, FL

Henry J. (Hank) Schiess Jr., 77, of Palm Bay, Florida passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 27, 2015. Also known to many as "Pop", Hank lived a full life but was taken from those he loved much too soon. Remarkably quick witted he was never at a loss for words or a joke and always had an interesting story to tell.

Born on April 10, 1937 in Guttenburg, NJ he was an accomplished musician by the age of 13 making several appearances on local radio and television shows and displaying his talents on the piano, xylophone, accordion and drums. After serving in U.S. Army for "Six years, eleven months and one day" (as he always liked to point out) he started out as an architectural draftsman before becoming a lifelong construction worker. A longtime member of The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America he joined NASCAR as a licensed stock car driver in 1961.

He is survived by his companion of 17 years Liz Young, his sons Joseph of Reno, NV, and John of Brick, NJ and his daughters Vicki and Valerie of Palm Bay, FL. In addition Hank leaves behind eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife Theresa in 1994 and son James in 2005.

Daddy...it's been 12 days since I've held you in my arms to say good-bye. It's like I blinked my eyes and that time zipped by. I'll always love you and miss you. Give Mommy hugs from all of us and take care of each other.
