Sarah Safer Obituary

Sarah Safer - Jacksonville - Sarah Safer, 99, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully Friday, February 27, 2009, in Jacksonville. She was born April 10, 1909 in Boston, MA, and moved to Florida in 1919. She married Eddie Safer in 1934. She had been a resident of Lakeland, Miami, Cocoa Beach and Jacksonville. Sarah owned and operated a womens clothing store and was also a teacher, which was her main love. She was a volunteer tutor in Roosevelt elementary, until 2005 when she moved to River Garden in Jacksonville. She had been recognized by Brevard County and FLORIDA TODAY for her many volunteer efforts. She was active in United Order of True Sisters Brevard 66 for more than 30 years. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Leonard) Rabin of Lakeland, and Jane (Mrs. Malcolm Kirschenbaum) of Cocoa Beach; grandchildren, Barry (Sherri) Chait, Susan Sorko and Jennifer Kirschenbaum and Josh Kirschenbaum; great- grandchildren, Joey Chait and Emily Chait, Rachel (Mrs. Luis) Vargas and Jeremy Slaznik; and great-great-grandchildren, Jalen Vargas and Aailyah Vargas. Graveside services will be at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home Sunday, March 1st, at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: United Order of True Sisters, Brevard 66, 181 Bimini Road, Cocoa Beach, FL 32931, or to River Garden, 11401 Old St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville, FL 32258.
