David Nelson Obituary

PENN YAN - David Allen Nelson, 78 of Penn Yan, passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2020 after a brave battle with cancer.

Graveside services will be held in Evergreen Cemetery in Dresden, N.Y. at a later date.

David was born in Penn Yan, N.Y. on September 15, 1942 to Rhoda (Scott) Nelson and Earl V. Nelson. He graduated from Penn Yan Academy.

David worked at Michael Sterns for 15 years and retired from Hobart and William Smith College. David had a love of raising pigeons, which he started at the age of 16. He attended numerous pigeon shows from 1981 to 2020. David was a proud member of The American Indian Fantail Club of America, The Pigeon Fancier Association of Rochester, N.Y. and the UMC of Dresden, N.Y.

David is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Diane (Johnson) Nelson; son, Jeffrey Payne; daughter, Katrina (Nelson) Morabito; grandchildren Aaliyah, August ("Gus") Morabito and Adam David Hullings; as well as his brother, Earl V. Nelson Jr. (Elaine) of San Bernardino, Calif.; mother-in-law, Marion (Johnson) Harris; sister-in-law, Kim (Kevin) Fultz; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by son, Earl M. Nelson; his parents; and sisters Sally Nelson and Phyllis Giovinazzo.
