David Updike Obituary
The family will receive friends Tuesday (March 28) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main Street in Ovid. A funeral service will be held Wednesday (March 29) at 2 p.m. at Ovid Federated Church, 7137 North Main Street, officiated by Pastor Diane Walker. Prayers of committal will be held in Lake View Cemetery in Interlaken.
The family has established an educational endowment for his grandchildren, in lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory may be directed to: David Updike Memorial Fund, PO Box 24, Willard, NY 14588.
David was born May 7, 1951, in Seneca Falls, the only son of Elmo and Elma (Champion) Updike. As a lifetime resident of the area he has always farmed in Lodi. He operated his trucking company, hauling grapes, hay and straw. David was more than just a spectator at motorsports, he was a stock car driver, tractor puller and snowmobiler. David was a true family man, his pride and joy came from watching his children grow to start their own families. The best way to start a conversation was to ask him about his grandchildren!
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Vicki; his daughters, Tammy (Paul) Raulerson of St. Augustine, Fla. and Lori Russell of Willard; a son, Michael (Fawn) Updike of Lodi; his grandchildren, Cassie Russell, David Raulerson, Davin Updike and his expected granddaughter, Rylee Updike; his mother, Elma Updike of Interlaken; a sister, Wanda Updike of Lodi; and a very large extended family.
David was preceded in death by an infant son, David Jr. in 1976; and by his father in 1994.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our extended family. David was quiet and sometimes shy, but a devoted family man and friend. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He will surely be missed by all that knew him. We can all take comfort in knowing that he and Elmo are tending the fields in Heaven!
