Ronald William Salyer

PENN YAN– Ronald William Salyer, 89, of Penn Yan, N.Y., died on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Geneva General Hospital.

He was born on August 22, 1934 the son of the late Jack Salyer and Mary Pickup (Edsall). On December 23, 1952, he married his wife Jane in Burdett, N.Y.

Ron was an accountant and control manager at GLF Agway for 33 years, retiring in 1990. For his second career, Ron worked for the United Methodist Church and helped form the United Methodist Frontier Foundation.

Ron was a member of the Bluff Point United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the NHPA, where he pitched in many tournaments locally and nationally. Ron loved woodworking, making ornaments and various wood objects for friends, family and the church. He made many frames for Jane's cross stitch pieces. They made a very creative pair. He also helped run the Once Again Shoppe.

He is survived by his daughter, Robin DeSantis of Port Crane, N.Y.; son, Dean (Kirsten) Salyer of Angelica, N.Y.; step sisters, Judy (Chris) Pohl of Silver Springs, MD and Jacqueline (Glenn) Prescott of Lawrence, KS; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jane; son-in-law, James DeSantis; and by his aunt and uncle who raised him, Clarence and Ada Halford.

A celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of his family. Burial will be in Seamans Cemetery in Savona, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Bluff Point United Methodist Church, PO Box 134, Bluff Point, N.Y. 14478.
