Windsor Van Allan Obituary

GENEVA / ORANGE CITY, Fla. - Mr. Windsor M. "Curly" Van Allan, passed away on March 4, 2025, one month shy of his 98th birthday, at Advent Health's Fish Memorial Hospital, Orange City, Fla., surrounded by family, following a brief illness.

Curly was born on April 4, 1927, in Waverly, N.Y., the son of Maurice H. Van Allan and Frances K. McCarty Van Allan. He joined the United States Marines at the age of 18 serving in Sasebo and Nagasaki, Japan, during the Occupation. After serving 18 months he returned to Geneva and graduated from Geneva High School in 1947. He started working as a truck driver for Geneva Welding Supply and retired 40 years later as President of the company.

Curly was married for 40 years to the late Madalyn M. Lahr Van Allan.

He is survived by his daughters, Patty Van Allan of Houston, Texas, Susan (Rod) Rabideau of Debary, Fla., and Jan Van Allan of Orange City Fla.; sons, Jim (Giovana) Van Allan of Debary, Fla., and David (Colleen) Van Allan of Geneva, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Genny Van Allan of Waterloo, N.Y.; grandchildren, Rickey, Meghan, Courtney (Jon), Nate, Ivette (Patrick), Jodi (Mike), Kyle, and Madalyn; and great-grandchildren, Samantha, Cole, Eva, Preston, Skyler, Zach, Zoey, MJ, Kendra, Caitlyn, Addy, Tyler, and Santiago.

Curly was predeceased by daughters, Nancy and Mary Van Allan; son, Gary Van Allan; and son-in-law, Art Curtis.

Curly was a proud WWII veteran and last year participated in the 80th Anniversary of D-Day at the WWII Museum in New Orleans with son Jim, as well as Honor Flight-Rochester in October with son David. He was a devoted father, papa, and great papa and enjoyed being close to his family the past three years. He loved horse races at Finger Lakes and Tampa Bay Downs and watching the Tampa Bay Rays and Syracuse University basketball and football. Puzzles and reading took up much of his time in recent years.

A memorial service at The Presbyterian Church in Geneva and burial in New York State Veterans Cemetery-Finger Lakes, (formerly Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery) will be held in July 2025.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Curly's memory can be made to Honor Flight-Rochester, online at honorflightrochester.org, or to PO Box 23581, Rochester, NY 14692, or to an charity of your choice.

The family would like to express our appreciation to the wonderful staff at Fish Memorial's Progressive Care, ICU, and Hospice Care units.

We will miss Curly...he was a wonderful, loving, warm and caring stepfather and grandfather. We always enjoyed time spent with him and my mother through the years. He was a fine man...helpful and always with a kind word and an interesting story to tell but always willing to listen or give advice as well. Indeed God will say "with you I am well pleased". Thank you for being the gentleman you were and for always loving us and my mother...& treating us like we were part of your family. We love you and miss you and will look forward to seeing you again in Heaven one day.
