BRENDAN LARKIN KELLY, 40, beloved father, brother, son, friend, and talented actor and chef, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, in Charleston, S.C. Evan Kelly, Dr. Caitrin Kelly, Dr. Erin Kelly; and his daughter, Eve Catharine Kelly Scharfenberg, of whom he was infinitely proud. We are still in absolute disbelief. Our memories of Brendan of course are all tied in with Canterbury School. He was so talented and so friendly. Kind hearted. I wished him happy birthday January 10 on FB. Never realizing that was the last Facebook communication. Occasionally before there were posts. We know his family is heartbroken. There are no words to convey our sadness at this tragedy.

It is so very sad to hear about Brendan. He was always so outgoing and seemed to be involved in everything at Canterbury. It was so amazing to hear him sing and watch him act. What talent he had, and I know that you both were so proud of him. May God watch over all of during this most difficult time. We will keep you in our prayers. Jerry and Judy Anderson

It was my great pleasure to have Brendan in class. He was a fine young man and will always be in my heart. We vividly remember his lead performance in Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. Although we´ve seen professional Joseph productions, Brendan was the stand out as Joseph. From these early years Brendan always remained in my memory. Then Tom and I were fortunate to spend a day with Brendan and the Kellys a few years ago. We had a wonderful brunch, sampling Brendan´s creations. Best of all we had a time of conversation, both meaningful and joyous. We had the chance to see how this fine young teen I´d known in the past had developed into an outstanding young man. Our loss is great but his memory will remain with us.

I had the distinct privilege of directing Brendan in a production of "Burn This". What struck me most about Brendan´s creation of his character was the sensitivity, the vulnerability coming from this giant of a man. Yes, physically he was a big, beautiful man...but his soul, his soul was even bigger and more beautiful.
To Brendan´s family and friends...I mourn with you and hope that the sweet memories of Brendan will, over time, replace the grief. All the best,K
