CAROL QUICK Obituary


CAROL LEYDEN QUICK, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born Carol Ann Mitchell on Dec. 3, 1935, in Island Falls, Maine, she was the daughter of Clement Hall Mitchell and Margaret Della Schurman O'Neil. The family moved to Marion, Ind. in 1945. Carol graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1953. Music (voice) was her favorite subject. She often performed at the Paramount Theatre in Marion on Friday evenings. Shortly after graduation, she entered the St. Joe School of Nursing. She received her RN in 1957. She was president of N.O.V.A Chapter 188 Nurses Organization of Veteran Affairs from 1987 to 1990 and was a member of the Thalia Sorority, a community service organization. She retired from the Fort Wayne Veterans Hospital in 1997 as the Head Nurse of the Medical Ward. Carol was an avid golfer and card player. Bridge was her favorite game. She also had a love of water and swimming. The 20 years spent at her home on Atwood Lake in Wolcottville were some of her happiest years. She also enjoyed the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and was a season ticket holder for the POP's concert series. She is survived by her husband of five years, John D. Quick of Kendallville; six children, Kimberly (Dennis) Bloom of Delaware, Ohio, Timothy E. Gladieux of Columbus, Ohio; Mary (Kenneth) Smith of Albuquerque, N.M., Nancy (David) Baker, Ostrander, Ohio, Susan Ulrich of New Haven, and David (Leah) Gladieux of Fort Wayne; two stepchildren, Steven (Kristi) Quick of Fishers and Andrew (Michelle) Quick of Granger; a brother, Rodney (Joyce) Mitchell of Columbia City; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Clement Mitchell; and most recently in January her sister, Sharon Ringenberg. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, 11 a.m. at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Sidney Gauby officiating. Calling also from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
