DAVID CSEREP Obituary

DAVID G. CSEREP, 76, of Auburn, died on Friday, March 11, 2016, at his home with his family by his side. His goal was to be able to celebrate his 76th birthday and he was able to do that on March 9, 2016. He was born March 9, 1940, in Chicago, Ill. the son of Cyril and Mary Jo (Herendeen) Cserep. He and his family came to Auburn when he was 14 years old. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1958. After high school David graduated from DePauw University with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He then went on to earn two master's degrees. The first was a master's in education from the University of Cincinnati and the second was a master's in chemistry from the University of Notre Dame. He married his wife, Suzanne on April 2, 1982, at Trinity English Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. She resides in Auburn. He made his career in education. He started as a math teacher in the South Bend area. He spent one year at DeKalb High School as the Athletic Director. He then spent 27 of his 35 years in education at Jefferson Middle School in Fort Wayne as a math teacher and guidance counselor. He was fortunate enough to be selected by one of his students to be a member of Who's Who Among American Teachers. He also coached football, wrestling and track over the years. He attended Trinity English Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. He was a past member of Phi Delta Kappa, past president of the Auburn Lions Club, past president and 25 year board member of the DeKalb County Red Cross. He enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, sailing, being outdoors and farming. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Surviving are his wife, Suzanne Cserep of Auburn; sons, David (Michelle) Cserep Jr. of Auburn and Daniel (Julie) Cserep of Lafayette; daughter, Diana (Mark) Engdahl of Granger; stepsons, Scott Derrow of Indianapolis and Randy (Merry) Derrow of Lawson, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; sisters, Patricia Gernaat of Plainwell, Mich., Lynda (Mac) McCammon of Maggie Valley, N.C. and Nikki (Garth) Adcock of Hickory, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Cyril Cserep; his mother, Mary Jo Hugo; and a stepdaughter, Kristy Okuly. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Feller & Clark Funeral Home, 1860 S. Center St., Auburn, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Kathleen Haller officiating. Visitation also from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2016, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to the United Service Organizations, P.O. Box 96860, Washington, DC 20077-7677 and Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health, 705 Riley Hospital Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46202. I'll always remember the time he spent with us in the lunchroom. We always paused for a moment of silence. Being a Middle School Math Teacher now, I appreciate all that he gave to make Jefferson Middle School the great school it was! Thank you, Mr. Cserep, for everything!
