RICHARD WEAVER Obituary

DR. RICHARD F. (DICK) WEAVER, 90, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018. Born March 1, 1927, in Fort Wayne, Ind., he was the son of the late Theodore and Margaret (Martin) Weaver. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1945 and immediately entered the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. When the Korean War began he re-enlisted and entered the 3rd Ranger school offered by the Army, completing over 300 jumps as a paratrooper. He received numerous commendations and was honorably discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant. He returned home and attended Indiana University completing his undergraduate and graduate work. More importantly this is when he met the love of his life, Janice Farmer. Dick and Jan both had successful careers, but when not working they enjoyed fishing, working on the farm, and travelling the world. He was preceded in death by Jan in 2009 after 51 loving years of marriage. His working career began as a manager at RCA in Bloomington, Ind. Working on the controls for the lunar landing module was one of his most satisfying projects. Ultimately promoted to the corporate staff, Dick retired after 20 years and moved into consulting as VP-Director of the International Consulting Company. There he provided all facets of productivity services, including work factor measuring standards. Dick formed his own consulting group and over a 15-year period delivered Management Development programs to nearly 300 major corporations, 40 universities, 30 municipalities, and 20 hospitals. He distinguished himself as an industrial engineering expert and contributed to many publications. For the past 33 years Dick has called Murray, Ky. home. He has been a faithful member of Saint Leo Catholic Church since his arrival and has served numerous organizations such as the Boy Scouts, Red Cross, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Rotary, CASA, and most recently the Murray-Calloway County Community Foundation, Inc., where he is one of the founding Board Members. Dick and Jan's philanthropic interests have been broad, giving substantial financial support to Murray State University and to various Community projects over the years. Notable recognition is a Doctor of Humane Letters from Murray State, Kentucky Colonel, 2014 Rotarian of the year, and Murray-Calloway County Philanthropist of the year in 2016. Support of the community will continue through their foundation for many years to come. Surviving are his beloved sister, Marie (Lloyd) France; brother, Theodore (Ted) (Phyliss) Weaver. Additionally, there are 23 nieces, nephews, and their families that all had a special place in his heart. He was also preceded in death by brothers, James and Robert Weaver; brother-in-law, Harold Farmer; and sisters-in-law, Joan, Nancy, and Marilyn Weaver, and Dorothy Farmer. Funeral Mass is 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at St. Leo Catholic Church, with visitation from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Father Brandon Williams and Father Jason McClure will officiate. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery in Fordsville, Ky. Visitation also from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, with Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m., at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Janice F. and Richard F. Weaver Student Athlete Academic Scholarship Fund, through the Murray State University Foundation Office of Development, 200 Heritage Hall, Murray (KY 42071) or the Drs. Dick Weaver was a phenomenal man. Kind and loving family man who lived to share a good laugh and stories from the past. He was my Dad's best friend - they knew each other for 72 years. Dick was a joy to our whole family and we have many fond memories that will comfort us when we think of the loss of this special man
God give him peace and eternal joy.

Dick Weaver, God broke the mold when he made you! You gave and gave and gave - of your time, your resources and your thoughtfulness. I shall cherish our lunch dates as well as your friendship. Also will fondly remember you and Jan bringing fresh blueberries or strawberries to my MSU office to share with me and others. Your booming voice and laugh will be missed but now you are at peace with your loving Jan. May you laugh with the Angels and walk through fields of flowers with Jan til we meet you again.

Dick was a wonderful Godfather and friend to me. As a close friend of my Dad Ray Tobin, our family adopted Dick and were thrilled with any visit he made to see us over the years. Recently Dick and I had the pleasure of meeting his Battalion Commander from Korea - 94 years old - retired General Frederick Kroesen. It was a thrill for Dick to see him after 65 years and a thrill for me to be present. My Dad passed away on January 26th and for Dick to also pass made us wonder if they had a spiritual connection in addition to their 76-year friendship. Dick is at peace after a life well lived. God bless Dick and his family.

If, when facing a challenge or an opportunity, I would ask, "What would Dick Weaver do?" the world would be a better place, and I would be a much better person.

Marie and Ted, I am sorry for your loss, he was quite an accomplished Man. Great to hear that a St Andrews student did so well in His life.

We at Kentucky Wesleyan College are saddened to hear of Dick's passing. He is now with his beloved Jan for all eternity. As we celebrate Jan's scholarship each year, we will remember Dick's passion for education and helping young men and women. Rest well, dear friend. Enjoy your eternal rewards.

There really aren't words to say just how much Dick Weaver will be missed. He made dreams come true. My son was an avid Jimmy Johnson fan and Dick had a relative who worked for Hendrick & was able to get Jesse an autographed photo among some other items that will be forever cherished. The gifts were wonderful, but his friendship was an even greater gift. Dick was an amazing human being that showed kindness to everyone! We loved him so! Murray won't be the same. Dick Weaver was a legend that impacted so many of us. He made our little boys dream come true. We will forever be thankful.

I am sorry to learn of Dick's passing. I went to work for him as his secretary in May, 1961 at RCA in Bloomington. What a wonderful man and gentleman. Also had the privilege of typing Jan's Doctoral Thesis in the spring and summer of 1964. My husband I received a Christmas card from Dick every Christmas until this past Christmas. I knew when we did not hear from him that he was not well. Rest in peace, Dick.

The world is a better place because of the life of Dick Weaver. I welcomed Dick and Jan to Murray 33 years ago as their Realtor. Dick was an inspiration for me to establish Murray's Kids Care for Hunger and led me and encouraged me to establish Murray's Kids Care for Hunger in the Murray Calloway County Community Foundation. He was a fellow Rotarian and was an example for all that he showed "Service Above Self". Dick, Murray is so grateful for your feelings and contributions.
Dick, you will live on, as you so desired, in many lives in Murray and Calloway County, including Murray State University.

I had the privilege of serving with Dick on the board of the Murray Calloway County Community Foundation. He was both an inspirer and a motivator. I would consider him a mentor that I will miss until we meet again. May we all work to use our energy and resources to help others as he did.
