TODD MICHAEL HAMMEL

TODD MICHAEL HAMMEL, 38, of LaFontaine, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015, at 1:10 p.m., at his residence. Todd was a 1996 graduate of Huntington North High School. He had attended Huntington University. He received his paramedic's certification from the University of Saint Francis; he received his master's degree from Indiana Tech in organizational leadership. He was an officer at the Fort Wayne Police Department since August of 2002, most recently serving as a sergeant, where he also received a Meritorious Service Award in 2005. He was a paramedic at Parkview Huntington Hospital for several years. He previously taught at Indiana Tech in the Criminal Justice Department. Todd was a leader for Boy Scout Troop 130 of Huntington and was a volunteer for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Born Aug. 7, 1977, in Huntington, he was the son of Brent D. and Kathleen S. (Christ) Hammel. He was united in marriage to Tracy Marley on Sept. 29, 2001, in Fort Wayne; she survives. Additional survivors include his son, Breckin R. Hammel at home: stepson, Hale A. Bowen at home; sister, Kelly (Jason) Diemer of New Haven; father, Brent D. Hammel of Roanoke; mother, Kathleen S. Hammel of Fort Wayne; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gary and Cheryl Marley of LaFontaine; grandparents, Robert and Nina Rouch of LaFontaine, Alice Marley of Warren, and Marian Hammel of Huntington; sister and brother-in-law, Kristian and Jaime Shorter of McCordsville, Ind.; niece, Kendall Shorter; and two nephews, Brogan and Blake Diemer. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, Ind., with visitation one hour prior. Chaplain Richard Hartman officiating. Visitation also from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at the funeral home. Interment in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
