I knew Mr. Farrar when he was principal of Madison Elementary School. I was a student there from 1977 to 1981. He was an extraordinary man who ran that school like a well-oiled clock. Discipline was superb, there were few problems, and learning was a pleasure. Combine that with a staff of excellent teachers who truly cared and you have a school that lives in my memory as an exemplar of what education can be. I credit Mr. Farrar for making it all possible. And I'll never forget his sitting next to me during the bus ride to Fort Wayne to see the circus. I was in third grade and very worried that I'd be sick during the drive. He chatted with me through the entire trip and distracted me from my inner concerns. Thank you Mr. Farrar. You were one in a million.
