Harold Frank Obituary

ROCHESTER - Harold M. "Butch" Frank, 80, of Rochester, N.H., and a winter resident of Nokomis, Fla., died Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at the Sarasota Medical Center as a result of Covid-19.

Born in Syracuse, N.Y., August 21, 1940 the son of William and Shirley (Young) Frank. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Donna Kalb or Syracuse, N.Y.

Butch grew-up in Syracuse and attended schools there. He was a US Air Force Veteran having served from 1961 to 1965.

Prior to his retirement he was employed for the Rochester School Department, maintenance department and had also worked at the Rochester Country Club and the Lake Venice Golf Course (Venice, Fla.).

Butch was a life member, past Exalted Ruler two times, and former District Deputy of the Dover Lodge of Elks; a life member and former Senior Vice-Commander of the Somersworth Post #69 American Legion; and was a member of the Polish Club of Newmarket. He took his lodge and command duties very seriously and ruled by consensus and example.

He is survived by a son William Roy Frank and his wife Tara of Somersworth; a daughter JoAnn Stevens and her husband Stuart of South Berwick; and sisters Shonna Hobbs of Dover, Del., and Barbara Warren of Orange City, Fla. His pride and joy was his four grandchildren: Shelly Proper of Berwick, Stuart Stevens, III of Berwick, Cameron Frank of Somersworth, and Alyssa Frank of Somersworth. He also had five great-grandchildren: Quinn McDonald, and Lilly, Samuel, and Finn Proper. He also had many nieces and nephews.

Butch was a snowbird and wintered in Florida. He also had no problem calling in the winter to tell us he just got done sunning himself in the nice warm weather, or had just come from a local Tiki bar with his buddies. He camped in the summer at Grand View Campground in Rochester, and had many friends there that helped him and fed him frequently. He was a gentleman and social butterfly. Butch had friends everywhere. Any place we went, he met people he knew, and if he didn't know them, by the time he left they were friends.

Butch was a big sports fan. He loved the Yankees (sigh), Syracuse University Basketball, Cleveland Browns (really), and suddenly became a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan this year. He was an avid golfer, loved softball, riding his Harley, and snowmobiling (even if we had to dig him out of the snow all the time). He was also a big fan of his family; he loved us warts and all. He was always ready with a big smile, words of encouragement or praise, and a lot of love.

SERVICES: Calling hours are Wednesday, December 9, from 4-6 p.m., at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, December 10. Was very sorry to learn of Butch's passing. For many years, he was a close friend of my husband's. It was always nice to encounter a short visit here and there while both men were still alive. I hadn't seen him in recent years since my husband was gone. Two great people who thoroughly enjoyed each other's company, sharing stories of their military service and of their Elk lodges. Surely they are sharing some of those same stories now in the hereafter.

I’ve known Butchie for such a long time. Motorcycle rides to Ogunquit, his Exalted Ruler ceremony at the Elks, being there for my wedding (warning my husband that he had better be good to me!”) and so much more.
Most of all I’ll miss his Christmas morning phone call which he has done for the past thirty years, never missing one.
RIP Dear Friend
You are one of a kind and you will be missed.
