Olive Norton Obituary

Olive W. Norton

DOVER - Olive Norton died peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 7 at Langdon Place in Dover. Olive was born in South Berwick, Maine on Oct. 25, 1918.

She was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker until the early 1950s when she was employed as a worker & supervisor of the DHS Cafeteria for over 20 years. She was known as a hard-working employee.

When Olive & Fred retired, they spent many happy years traveling with their Airstream on Caravans that took them all over the United States, Alaska and Mexico. They spent 30 plus winters with friends at Briny Breezes at Boynton Beach, Fla. She was very active in many aspects of life there including being the leader of the aquatic class up until the age of 92. She participated in the shuffleboard club with her husband, had small parts in plays, and was the "flower lady for the church." For many years she enjoyed playing BINGO and sharing many social activities with her local Red Hat Ladies. Mom loved her family, friends and people in general.

Mom/Grammie was a devoted wife and mother.

We knew her strong opinions on many aspects of our daily lives. She was fun-loving, enjoyed playing cards and board games which she share with us as young children and with her senior friends. Mom/Grammie Norton was a bright light in all of our lives. She often said, " We have been blessed with a wonderful life, a great family and friends, good health and wonderful memories."

She is survived by her husband, Fred Norton whom she was married to for 75 years, their three children, Nancy Cote, Richard Norton and Bruce Norton. She enjoyed her 6 grandchildren, John Norton & his wife, Julie Gutfeld & her husband; Gary, Steven & Mark Cote and their wives; and Elizabeth Norton & her partner. She was, also, blessed with 5 great- grandchildren: Michael, Jessica, Nathan and Ben Cote and Harrison Gutfeld. Family always came first for Olive. Her children and grandchildren have many fond memories of their time spending time tenting or camping at York Beach.

Olive has two surviving sisters, Joan and Patricia and a brother, Owen Webster. She was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers.

Family flowers only. Donations can be made in Olive's name to Wentworth Hospice, 121 Broadway, Suite 117, Dover, NH 03820 or a charity of you choice.

Many memories go down the lane as I reflect on the times our families met many, many years ago. Both of our moms graciously accepted all of their children into their homes and gave us many hours of games and fun. This is one of the times in life when one always says" we will get together" and busy times never make it happen. Hopefully , those who read this take heed and do not let it happen. My condolences to all of you, Patricia, Joan and Owen and all of the family.
