Ronald Fredette Obituary

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Ronald H. Fredette of Gainesville, Fla., died Nov. 18, 2009 with his family by his side after a period of failing health.

Born Nov. 4, 1950 in Dover, N.H., he was the son of Henry and Theresa (Keenan) Fredette.

Ron lived in and around Dover for nearly all his life until 2005, when he retired to Florida. He graduated from Dover High School in 1968 and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1972. He worked for General Electric in Somersworth for 35 years.

Ron loved the ocean either from the beach or the bow of a ship. He also loved lighthouses and spending time with his grandchildren. A lifelong Yankees fan, he loved sports and talking for hours about history and politics.

Surviving members of his family include his children, Timothy and wife, Ellen, of Simi Valley, Calif., Amanda Fredette of Exeter, N.H, Thomas Fredette of Pensacola, Fla., and Michelle Fredette and fiance, Dana Chatman of Dover, N.H.; his grandchildren Evan, Nathaniel, Caleb, and Rae; his sister, Donna and husband, Daniel, of Somersworth; his companion, Sherry Stone of Gainesville, Fla., and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial gathering will be held Monday, Nov. 23, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Somersworth, N.H. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society.

Sorry to hear about the loss of a good man and friend. I knew Ron for a long time, we went to school together and were best friends in second, third and forth grades. I eight grade we reunited with each other when I moved back to Third street in Dover. We remained friends thru high school and played CYO basketball together and we both joined the Navy at the same time. We also had the pleasure of working at G.E. together for 4 years. Ron will always be remembered by me. It was very nice to meet his family.
