Harold Williard Obituary

Mr. Harold R. "Hip" Williard, 80, of Thurmont, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the Willows at Homewood at Crumland Farms. He was the husband, for 54 years, to Mary Jo Hobbs Williard.

Born on June 5, 1925 in Thurmont, he was the son of the late M. Julia Sharer. In his earlier years, Harold was the owner of East End Service Station. In 1959, he became a sales manager for the Prudential Insurance Company, and during his semi-retirement, he worked with Chester T. Zentz Jr. as a Nationwide Insurance agent in Thurmont.

Mr. Williard was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ. Hip was a member of the Masons, Acacia Lodge #155, in Thurmont, where he received a certificate of membership for fifty years. He belonged to the Thurmont Lions Club for a number of years, and was a social member of the Thurmont American Legion, where he enjoyed playing cards. An avid hunter and bowler, he will miss the time spent with his friends, and especially will be loved and remembered by his faithful family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his children, Elizabeth W. Conine and husband Tom of Hickory, N.C., H. Thomas Williard and wife Eileen of Sykesville, Md., Anne K. Wright and husband Jim of N. Myrtle Beach, S.C., Teresa W. Baker and husband Perry of Jefferson, Md., Mark F. Williard and wife JL of Keller, Texas; his loving granddaughters, Meghan Conine, Katlyn Williard, Morgan Williard and Sydney Williard; his loving grandsons, who will serve as his pallbearers, Scott Conine, Nicholas Williard, Chad Baker, Ben Baker, Paul Williard, Shawn Baker and Mark Williard; his nephew, also a pallbearer, Skip Isaacs; a sister, Betty Isaacs and husband Jess of Thurmont; his aunt, Glenna Boyer of Gettysburg, Pa.; and many other nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, Md., on Friday from 2 until 9 p.m. where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Les Sims officiating, being assisted by Mr. Williard's brother-in-law, Monsignor James V. Hobbs. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.
