Joseph Hewitt Obituary

Mr. Joseph William Hewitt, 53, of Kaetzel Road, Knoxville, died Saturday, March 20 at his home, after a year long battle with colon cancer. He was the beloved husband of Chris Harbaugh Hewitt, his wife of 31 years.

Born April 4, 1950, in Frederick, he was a son of Willis N. and Rosemary Woolever Hewitt of St. Augustine, Fla.

Mr. Hewitt was a graduate of Gov. Thomas Johnson High School, Frederick, Class of 1968.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Hewitt was a long time employee of LaFarge in Frederick, where he worked as a loader operator.

He was a member of the Eagles Aerie 1136 in Brunswick, and the National Rifle Association.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed collecting coins and hunting mushrooms in the spring.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are his daughter, Lisa Hewitt of Frederick; three brothers, Donald Hewitt and wife Cindy of Frederick, Bruce Hewitt and wife Angie, and Larry Hewitt and wife Suzie, all of Hastings, Fla.; a granddaughter, Victoria Page; and many nieces and nephews.

He will also be remembered by special friends, Dale and Christy Jones of Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Hewitt; paternal grandparents, Alonzo and Susie Rice Hewitt; and maternal grandparents, Joseph and Lillie Mae Marsh Woolever.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 23, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Marina C. Flores, pastor of Manor Lutheran Parish, will officiate.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County Inc., P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Bearers will be Pat Waldren, Dale Jones, Gary Hollar, Donald Hewitt, Buddy Harbaugh and Joe Fleming.
