Ruth Elizabeth Marshall, 97, of Frederick, Maryland, formerly of Calvert County, MD passed away peacefully on 12/24/2022 at her home in Somerford House, Frederick, MD.

Born July 17, 1925 in Prince George's County, MD, she was the daughter of Lottie Duckett Nicholson and Charles Nicholson.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by siblings Charles Nicholson and Ray Nicholson; and beloved grandson Jordan Marshall.

Ruth was a budget analyst for the Federal Government and retired in 1980 as district manager for the Census Bureau. In retirement she traveled the world, became a talented painter, continued her love for music and singing by joining Encore Creativity For Older Adults, directing choirs including handbell choirs, and sharing her love for the arts with many others by teaching and mentoring. She volunteered and supported her community in many ways including membership in Business and Professional Women's (BPW) DC chapter, League of Women Voters, Calvert County CASA advocate, performing as docent at Cove Point Light House and Jefferson Patterson Park, volunteering at the Calvert Marine Museum and served as Treasurer of the Calvert Artists Guild just to name a few.

She is survived by son Steven Marshall (Celeste) and daughter Nancy Scandlen (Greg). Also left to cherish her memory are granddaughters Annette Stuckey (Dave), Joanne Baker (Joel), Jennifer Marshall (Erik Zinger) and Erika Helmburg (Nick); grandson Kenny Wollstein (Stacey); great grandchildren Dylan Lambert, Savannah Baker, Harper Baker, Chloe Wollstein, Liam Wollstein, Miranda Stuckey and Madison Stuckey; and numerous dear friends including the 11:30 brunch bunch.

Ruth was such a good frien for over 20 years. I met here by taking a watercolor class in Calvert county when we first moved here. she and I got along so well and we deepened our special friendship with our 11:30 Brunch bunch many years ago. We gathered at each others houses, ate well, laughed and talked a lot of politics and art. In December we had a special gathering to celebrate our friendship by toasting her and tell our favorite stories. Sue brought 5 angels to represent each of us together. Ruth's angel is white stained glass holding a white dove. We loved her very much.

I have fond memories of Ruth. Having a Christmas party at her home in Sunderland near Prince Fredrick in Southern Maryland laughing and having fun. I enjoyed the time we had in church. Ruth was a witty and thoughtful person. Loved her paintings which I have one.
She will be sorely missed

Ruth was an amazing lady. I met her as a Calvert Artist Guild Member and was a fellow member with her at Artworks @7th. I have a beautiful piece of her artwork which I cherish.
My thoughts and prayers are with her many loved ones. RIP Ruth.
