John Kepcke, 81, of King George, peacefully passed onto his heavenly home Sunday morning, February 10, 2019, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia. A private memorial service will be arranged for his family to attend in a few weeks. John was born on November 7, 1937, to Karl and Thelma Kepcke in Ottumwa, Iowa. He studied Electrical Engineering at Iowa State University (BS), Syracuse University (MS), and started his doctorial studies at University of Florida. He married Kay Stanfield after meeting at Iowa State. They loved and shared life together for 58 years. John worked hard and provided caring and loving support for his three children Jeff (Kim) Kepcke, Andy (Dara) Kepcke, and Laurie Kepcke. He was especially proud and loved spending time with his grandson Jonathan Kepcke. John and his family moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1963 with General Electric where his contribution helped build the communication systems for the Apollo Space Programs. He continued his professional achievements with GE on Space Systems after moving to Stafford, Virginia in 1975. He retired with Lockheed Martin after a successful career of 35 years. Throughout his life, John stayed very active in many sports; Tennis, golf, volleyball, swimming, kayaking and cycling. Occasionally he could be found in one of Kay's gardens. In its early years, John was an active member of the Fredericksburg Bicycle Club. Every summer, for nearly 20 years, John and his family participated in RAGBRAI, a bicycle ride across Iowa. This tradition has continued to the second generation. He will be missed terribly. He is survived by his wife, Kay Kepcke, three children, Jeff (Kim) Kepcke, Andy (Dara) Kepcke, Laurie Kepcke, and his grandson Jonathan Kepcke. Preceding him in death are his parents, Karl and Thelma Kepcke. Leukemia is what took John Kepcke down. The Family would prefer a donation to any cancer charity in lieu of flowers.
