Gary A. Lay, 57, of Lincoln died Monday, March 26, 2003, in Lincoln.
He was born Dec. 2, 1945, in Fremont. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1964. He attended Doane College for two years. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a bachelor of science degree. He also received a master's degree in history from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was a member of Theta Xi Fraternity at UNL. He married Karen Fenster of York on Aug. 9, 1970. He taught school and coached football and track for Norfolk Junior High School from 1969-78. He worked for the Nebraska Energy Office from 1978-84. While there, he hosted the TV show "Easy On Energy." Since 1984, he had been employed with Nebraska Municipal Power Pool and as chief operating officer for ACE.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, serving as an usher and former elder. He was a member of Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Arts Ambassadors and the Lincoln Trap Club. He also coached his daughter's softball team for several years.
Survivors include: his wife; a son, Chad Lay of Lincoln; a daughter, Andria Lay of Omaha; his parents, Albertus N. and Rachel Lay of Glenvil; and a brother, Gregg (and wife, Crystal) Lay of Hastings.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln, 4325 Sumner St. The Rev. Luke Schnake will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, all at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.
Memorials have been established to Christ Lutheran Church and the Boy Scouts of America.
