AMALIA GONZALEZ Obituary

The matriarch of our family, Amalia Acosta Gonzalez was born on October 3, 1926, in South San Francisco, CA, to Ezequiel Acosta, and Juana (Hernandez) Acosta. and passed away on June 29, 2018, at the home of her son in Clovis, CA, surrounded by her loving family. Our angel ascended to heaven and is now in the loving arms of her family. Amalia grew up and lived in South San Francisco until the age of eight, when her father moved the family to Zacatecas, Mexico during the "Depression". It is in Zacatecas where she met and married the love of her life, Dionicio Gonzalez, Sr. Amalia and Dionicio, along with their infant son, Dionicio Gonzalez, Jr., returned to the United States, settling in El Paso, TX. It was in El Paso where she gave birth to four more sons. Eventually the family relocated to Clovis, CA, where she gave birth to three daughters. Amalia worked for Red Star Laundry for 35 years before retiring to become a homemaker. Amalia was preceded in death by her parents, Ezequiel and Juana Acosta; brothers, Samuel Acosta, and Alfredo Acosta; infant sisters, Alicia, Ofelia, and Ofelia "Chiquita". Amalia was also preceded in death by her son, Ezequiel Gonzalez; son-in-law, Donnie Brazeal; and daughters-in-law, Mary Gonzalez, and Mia Gonzalez. Amalia is survived by her husband of 73 years, Dionicio Gonzalez, Sr.; brothers, Raul Acosta and wife Elena, and Samuel Acosta; sister, Elisa Reimers; sons, Dionicio Gonzalez, Jr. and partner Oly, Luis Gonzalez, Ray Gonzalez and wife Max, Joe Gonzalez and wife LaVonne; and daughters, Irma Brazeal, Alice Mendoza and husband Gilbert, and Ophelia Borjas and husband Nick. She is also survived by her 22 grandchildren, and 51 great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly; and many loving nieces and nephews. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 929 Harvard Avenue, Clovis, CA 93612, on Friday, July 27, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon to celebrate and honor Amalia's life will be held at Notre Dame Hall, 333 Eighth Street, Clovis, CA 93612. following the Mass.
