Cleo Bauer Obituary
January 9, 1943 - January 23, 2023
Fresno, California - Joy, radiance and sunshine describe Cleo Lorraine Bauer. Born on January 9,1943 in Minden, Nebraska, she departed her beautiful world in Fresno, California, on January 23, 2023. Cleo was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Katharine Bauer, and brother, Calvin Bauer and wife Nancy. Surviving Cleo is her spouse, Dominic Papagni, stepchildren Catherine Papagni-Terrill (John), Dominic Papagni (Liz), Natalie Papagni and grandchildren, Catarina, Victoria, Sophia, Dominic, Nicholas & Sasha (Chris). Also surviving is niece Tiffany Bidne (Dana), and great-nieces Anastasia & Andrea and great-nephew Simon.
Cleo graduated with a BA in Art/Interior Design from Colorado State University, Ft. Collins and a Master of Arts from California State University at Chico. Cleo's love of higher education led to a career of four decades at four California State Universities (CSU) and at New York's Cornell University, where she served as Director of two University Student Centers.
Cleo met the love of her life, Dominic, on April 11, 1987, they married on November 10,1990 and celebrated 32 years of marriage last year. Cleo had a life-long love of the outdoors and an adventurous travel spirit that led her to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro twice. Cleo's retirement opened time to encourage her family to "imagine and grow", serve as an elected volunteer on the Board of Directors of the EECU, volunteer at Read Fresno, the Boys & Girls Club, Holy Cross Center for Women and the League of Women Voters. She was an active member of the Fresno Fiber Arts Guild and the Unitarian Universalist church in Fresno.
Cleo was a gracious and giving spouse, step-mom, grandmother, aunt, great aunt, colleague and friend. We will see Cleo in every sunrise!
Please join us for a Celebration of Life service on April 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Unitarian Universalist church at 2672 E. Alluvial Avenue, Fresno, CA 93720.
