GEORGIA McGINNIS Obituary

Georgia A. McGinnis, age 76, passed away in Pocatello, Ca. on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at a local medical center surrounded by her husband, four children and a grandson. She was born on July 9, 1937, in San Francisco, Ca. to Norma Edward and Virginia Belle Miller Graham. She married James H. "Jim" McGinnis Sr. on July 1, 1972, in Reno, Nv. She worked for JR Simplot Company in California and transferred to Pocatello in 1984, retiring in 2000, after 28 years of service. She loved to read and laugh. She loved her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, and especially her husband Jim. Georgia was active in Job's Daughters and in Eastern Stars in her teen years. She is a member of Native Daughters of the Golden West and a member of the Merced Historical Society. Georgia graduated from Merced High School in the class of 1955 and attended college in San Francisco. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Patricia Knapp and Marjorie Long; son-in-law, Russell Longnecker; sister-in-law, Virginia Anderson; and grandnephew, Joey Messina. She is survived by her husband Jim; children, James H. McGinnis Jr. and his wife Jeanne of LaPine, Or., Jeanine Chaney and her husband Doug of Winside, Ne., David E. McGinnis of LaPine, Or.,and Mary C. McGinnis and partner Connie of Crescent City, Ca.; five grandchildren, Jason Longhnecker, Julie Dirkschneider, Josie Longnecker, Patricia McGinnis and R.J. McGinnis; seven great-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service assisted by the Native Daughters of the Golden West, will be held at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B St., Merced, Ca. on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. with inurnment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park In lieu of flowers, Remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army, 1440 W. 12th St., Merced, Ca. 95340. Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B St., Merced, Ca. 95341, 209-722-4191.
