MARTIN MAZMAN Obituary

Martin S. Mazman was born on August 6, 1922, to Martin and Rose Mazman in Kerman California. After a multiyear battle with Alzheimer's disease, Martin went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, May 3, 2010. Raised on the family farm in Kerman during the depression, Martin learned the meaning of hard work and sacrifice. He recounted to his family how difficult those years were especially following the death of his father while still in high school. Martin became the head of the house at a young age. The never give up work ethic he possessed allowed the family to survive during those trying years. Martin loved precision machine work and following high school moved to Los Angeles. There he worked for an aircraft machining company before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps. Stationed in Brownsville Texas, Martin was trained to fly P-38's. World War II ended before Martin was schedule to go overseas. Upon returning to Fresno, Martin began his machining career with Leon S. Peters. He was eternally grateful to Mr. Peters in providing him the opportunity to gain enough experience to begin his own business. During those early years Martin loved racing. He raced Midgets until an accident ended this enjoyable pastime. In the 1960's Martin met Fresno entrepreneur Harold Zinkin. Mr. Zinkin recognized Martin's gifted ability to make dreams a reality. Mr. Zinkin partnered with Martin and together they created the Universal Gym. Before passing away Mr. Zinkin visited Martin at home and gave him a picture of the manufacturing staff standing around a piece of 'Gym' equipment that was being shipped to the "White House". Mr. Zinkin signed the picture; "To Martin Mazman, the man who made the Universal Gym work". Later in life Martin farmed grapes and almonds and collected Thunderbird cars. His most treasured times were spent with his loving wife Dorothy. Together they golfed and traveled with many dear family and friends. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the Susan Kendakur of Anjaleoni Enterprises and her caring staff who made his final days comfortable. Martin is survived by Dorothy, his loving wife of 41 years. He is also survived by his three daughters and a son, Marvelle Starr Evans and her husband Dave of Lake Tahoe, Melonie and Kurt Hayden of Carpentaria, Jane Stommel and her husband Bob of Fresno, and Barret and Caroline Arakelian of Clovis. He is also survived by five grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. A Viewing will be held at Yost and Webb Funeral Home on Friday, May 7, 2010, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. A Service will be held at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made, in lieu of flowers, to Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church; or the California Armenian Home.

I met Martin in the early 90's while I was a serviceman for the utility company. We were at his shop and started talking cars and he asked if I would like to see his collection. Of course being a car guy, there was no way I would turn that down. He opened the door of this warehouse in Fresno and I couldn't believe my eyes!! So many T-Birds and rare!! the one car I remember was a special Mustang that there were only 2 of them made, he had 1 and the other 1 was crushed! I believe it was a 67 K code Shelby GT-500. I'll never forget that day, he was an amazing guy and he was very humble for what he had. I really admired him. So sorry for the family's loss. He touched lives like mine.

Marti and I have had some of the best of times on the Golf Course, we would bet $1.00 on each hole like it was a sd$1000. dollars. We had some wonderful times. Marty was a first class guy and loved playing all the golf courses in California. I will always have such great memories even his bad Gin playing. Marty rest in peace, we will surly miss him.
