MARY AMORUSO Obituary

Mary Elena Amoruso passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015, at San Joaquin Gardens, surrounded by her family at the age of 94 years. Mary was born on April 7, 1921, in Worcester, MA, to Italian immigrants, Angelo and Assunta Marcucci Simoncini. She was a graduate of Commerce High School. Mary was married to Joseph Amoruso, Sr. They had a wonderful life of 63 years together until his passing in 2005. Mary was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Their life together revolved around their family, their Catholic faith and the numerous organizations they belonged to. Mary was a long time resident of Fresno where she was a charter member of Our Lady of Victory Parish, as well as a member and past president of the Our Lady of Victory Altar Society and Our Lady of Victory School Parents' Club. She belonged to the Italian Catholic Federation in Fresno, and later in Madera. Mary was active in the Italo-American Club of Madera where she was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary. As a member of the Italo-American Club, she enjoyed playing Bocce on Wednesdays and their monthly Saturday night dinner dances. She was an active participant and charter member of the Ranchos Hills Seniors Club. Her memberships truly reflected her identity as a "True Catholic Woman". For the past 28 years, Mary has made her home in the Madera Ranchos where she enjoyed her family and friends. For the last 15 years, she has made Holy Spirit Catholic Church her home parish. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph, Rico, and Alfred; and by her sisters, Elsie and Lena. Mary is survived by her children and their spouses, Joseph Amoruso Jr. and his wife Frances of Fresno, Angela Hughes and her husband Richard of Madera, Wayne Amoruso and his wife Kim of Madera Ranchos, Elena Fernandez and her husband Salvador of Fresno, Thomas Amoruso and his wife Corina of Fresno, and Joyce Schoenhoeft of Clovis. She is also survived by her sister, Iris Grimaldi of Worcester, MA; and brother-in-law, Chester Iaconi of Shrewsbury, MA. She is the beloved grandmother "Noni" of Victoria, Michael, Desiree, Kristen, Nicole, Kendra, Joshua, Salina, Ted, Nicholas and Sarah. She is the great grandmother to 13; and auntie to numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Fresno, CA on Friday, September 11, 2015, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., followed with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be held at St. Peters Cemetery in Fresno. I met Mary many years ago at Federico's Beauty College. I was a student and Mary was my first client as a senior student. Mary and I became very close friends during the time I styled her hair. I lost touch with her after I graduated from beauty school but thought of her often. Mary was a sweet, thoughtful, kind, loving person who thought the world of her children and grandchildren. I spent many a day listening to Mary talk about plans to spend time with family and her enjoyment cooking for the family her lovely Italian dinners. May the Lord accept her into his loving care and my your family have peace knowing your mother, grandmother and friend is resting in peace with our Lord and all the angels in heaven.
